With over 25 years of experience in public and private practice, Timothy Dalton is a seasoned international tax executive with expertise in tax controversy, policy and administration, high-net-worth individuals, cross-border taxation, and tax technology. His career spans complex tax risk management, strategic alliances, and innovative tax solutions for corporate and individual clients across Australia and the United States.

Before joining Modoras, Tim spent 18 years as a Partner at EY, where he led tax advisory services for some of the firm’s most prominent Australian and US clients. His work included high-profile tax disputes, including FCT v Consolidated Media Holdings Ltd [2012] HCA 55, one of Australia’s longest-running tax audits.

Recognised for his leadership in tax policy and controversy, he was seconded to Washington, DC, in 2012, where he worked alongside former US Treasury officials under both the Bush and Clinton administrations in EY’s national tax department. His expertise shaped EY’s global approach to emerging tax legislation and risk management, leveraging cutting-edge technology.

In 2014, Tim relocated to New York City and was admitted as an equity partner at EY US LLP. He played a pivotal role in developing client tax offerings and forming strategic alliances with technology giants such as SAP and Microsoft. His leadership generated a US$300M pipeline and US$100M in sales, overseeing a team of more than 100 professionals across the US and India. His clients included Goldman Sachs, Cisco, IBM, Microsoft, and Boeing. After a period in Silicon Valley, Tim returned to Australia in 2021, rejoining EY before bringing his expertise to Modoras.
