Victoria’s COVID-19 restrictions extended, more support for businesses

Victoria's COVID-19 Restriction Extended, Doubles Support to Businesses

The Victorian Government has announced $209.3 million of additional funding for small and medium businesses and sole traders affected by the state’s latest COVID-19 restrictions.

It follows the government’s announcement of a $250 million ‘Circuit Breaker Business Support Package’ last weekend, bringing the total amount of relief funding to nearly $460 million.

In a statement, the Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said:

Up to 90,000 businesses will benefit from the original support. About 70,000 of these businesses located in metropolitan Melbourne will be affected by the extension of restrictions beyond Thursday 3 June and will be eligible for the new support.

The restrictions began on May 27 and were meant to last a week, however, the Melbourne lockdown has been extended by another week as the state battles to contain the latest outbreak.

With safety nets such as JobKeeper no longer available, the funding will help businesses doing their part to keep Victorians safe.
