JobKeeper in August: What you need to know

*The information in this article no longer applicable to the current JobKeeper program.*

Is your business using JobKeeper?  If the answer is yes, here is what you need to know…

Businesses who are currently receiving JobKeeper payments should be aware that the month of August 2020 contains three JobKeeper fortnights as follows:

  • Fortnight ending 2 August;
  • Fortnight ending 16 August; and
  • Fortnight ending 30 August.

With three fortnights in one month, businesses will be required to pay the minimum wage of $4,500 to each eligible employee.

Recent JobKeeper changes: What comes into effect in August?

From 3 August 2020 JobKeeper has become available for all full time and part-time employees who were hired from 1 July 2020, as well as all casual employees who were employed on a regular and ongoing basis since 1 July 2019.

The Treasury has advised all employers are required to provide JobKeeper nomination notices to employees who have become eligible as a result of these changes by 21 August 2020.

The ATO has advised that for the month of August 2020 only, businesses only need to ensure they have satisfied the JobKeeper minimum wage condition ($4,500 for each employee) by 31 August 2020.

This will provide more time for businesses to assess whether any employees not originally on the JobKeeper program have become eligible to be included in the program, as a result of change in date for eligible employees (1 July 2020).
